Offers Experience And A Concern For Community Values
Ming Zhang is running for the Westford Planning Board because he sees it as a meaningful way to help shape the town’s growth—fostering affordable housing opportunities while benefiting current and future residents. He makes one thing very clear: growth must not overburden Westford’s infrastructure. This includes roads, water, sewer, and other critical services.
Ming brings personal experience from the real estate field, where he has served as both an advisor and advocate for homeowner associations. He consistently emphasizes the importance of balancing growth, affordability, and infrastructure development in a way that preserves the values of our community. Seeking community engagement and outreach are essential in his view toward achieving that balance.
Seeking a more reasonable and creative approach to development, Ming favors planned and phased growth over large-scale development—such as the MBTA zoning bylaw passed last year. He believes the state’s top-down approach risks placing burdens on current property owners, creating uncertainty about the future. It risks destabilizing the local tax base. Maintaining a healthy balance between homeowners and renters is a priority. He supports slowing the pace of development and preserving local authority over how that development is implemented.
To improve housing affordability, Ming proposes a two-pronged approach. First, he supports reasonably zoned higher-density districts for single-family homes in designated areas of town. Second, he advocates for the mixed-use development and construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) on existing properties.
As a strong supporter of the US Constitution Ming also rejects the use of zoning law to serve political agendas. He has pledged not support any effort that violates US Constitutional principles. Ming is married and the proud father of three children.
